David comes to Saint Columba after having been Minister of Music at Epiphany Church in NY City for 15 years. He is also the current Music Director at Central Synagogue NYC, a position he’s held for 8 years and where he plays the piano, organ and conducts the choirs.
Also a composer, he recently composed the score for Deepak Chopra’s new CD: A Path to Love. Written and narrated by Chopra, the one-hour CD has just been released and was featured on the Dr. Oz and Conan O’Brian television shows. Strickland’s opera Phoenix Park (Librettist Ilsa Gilbert, Director Tom O’Horgan), acclaimed “a sumptuous score” by the New Music Connoisseur received awards by the City of New York Department of Cultural Affairs, BMI, The Dramatists Guild, Inc., the Andrew Mellon and the Aaron Copland Funds.
He has arranged and orchestrated for the Dallas Symphony with the Broadway Baritones and for Broadway Actor Matt Bogart’s soon-to-be-released CD Sky Above Manhattan, with the National Symphony Orchestra of London. For years he toured with Pianist Roger Williams as well as with tenor White Eagle, appearing with the latter at Carnegie Hall and at the Crystal Cathedral.
David is a member of the adjunct faculty of Hebrew Union College and every summer, he conducts a series of master classes as a vocal coach for the National Student Leadership Conference. With Elizabeth Knauer, St. Columba’s Soprano Soloist, he also directs the Time Warner Singers. He grew up in Detroit, MI where he received his degree in Piano Performance at Wayne State University and he has a wonderful 10 year old daughter, Olivia.
