St. Columba officially merged with nearby Guardian Angel on Aug. 1, 2015. Cardinal Dolan’s official decree announcing the merger has been posted on the archdiocesan website. (You can find the decree online at: http://archny.org/decrees). The provisional name for our new parish is Guardian Angel and Saint Columba, though we will have the opportunity to submit alternative names for the cardinal’s approval within the next year.
While Guardian Angel has been designated as our parish church, and the repository of all sacramental registers, the church of St. Columba will remain open and maintain a regular schedule of Masses and sacraments. There is nothing in the decree that affects the status (or continued use) of the St. Columba rectory, the chapel, the convent, or the administrative offices. But you can expect many administrative changes as we consolidate both practical matters (like bank accounts) as well as church functions like religious education and the liturgical music program.
It is our hope that this web site will inform you about the past of both parishes, the challenges of today and the promise of the future as we become the parish of Guardian Angel/St. Columba.
